You may know of, or love someone who has been diagnosed with something that fits under the neurodevelopmental umbrella of concerns. Maybe the person you know has something such as Autism (or anything on its spectrum), AD/HD or AD/HD without hyperactivity, Sensory Processing Disorder, Learning Disabilities, or something other than what's listed which fits into the Neurodevelopmental category. If you do, keep reading! Because you've just found a part of the puzzle.
First we need to recognize the potential point of contention: The headline here states "can benefit", not cure. I am not big on the "C" word. This is a distinction that must be understood as critics of such information are often easily confused. Seeing that each human is their own be-ing, the beneficial outcomes derived from specific Chiropractic adjustments for each be-ing are as unique and varied as the individuals themselves.
And while it is one thing to merely read the evidence, it is quite another to actually see the impact chiropractic care has on such individuals and their families or caregivers. It has never been more evident to me then when the family and caregivers of an autistic 51 year-old, who was prone to violence towards his loved ones, has become non-violent after receiving specific spinal adjustments. Or when a three-year-old girl, who was a "picky eater", begins to eat strawberries after texture issues resolved after just a few specific spinal adjustments.
The big idea behind the chiropractic adjustment is to remove spinal subluxations which impede appropriate communication between the brain and the body. This lack of normal and healthy nervous system communication will decrease your ability to properly adapt to your internal and/or external environment.
Chiropractic changes not only the lives of those living with neurodevelopmental concerns, but positively impacts all those who are in contact with them. There is no need to wonder if it's right to get your loved ones under chiropractic care; the only question that you need answered is: "when do I want to help change someone else's life for the better?"

Background: The autonomic nervous system has traditionally been thought of as a dual system, containing a parasympathetic portion (used for rest/digest), and a sympathetic portion (used for fight/flight). This split concept changed in 1995 when Porges introduced the Polyvagal Theory. The third branch is the social engagement system, controlled by the myelinated portion of the vagus nerve. Addressing the vagus nerve with chiropractic care might prove to be beneficial for children suffering from neurodevelopmental issues.
Methods: Four children with neurodevelopmental issues were adjusted with a parasympathetic vagal-centric focus. Force application was delivered using techniques such as Network and tonal-based cranial work.
Results: All four children showed measurable improvement not just in physical abilities but also in social engagement.
Conclusion: The social engagement system controlled by the vagus nerve has significant potential ramifications for a child with neurodevelopmental issues. Analyzing and using chiropractic force applications within the parasympathetic system may be beneficial for special needs children.
